Versatile forward Alanna Smith is expected to sign a two-year deal with the Minnesota Lynx when free agency opens on Feb. 1, as first reported by ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, bringing even more versatility to a lineup headlined by superstar Napheesa Collier.
Smith broke onto the scene in 2023, emerging as a key contributor during her first season in Chicago. While showcasing her capability to impact the game in multiple ways, Smith set career highs in nearly every statistical category last year while providing the ability to shoot the ball well and stretch the floor while protecting the paint on the other end of the court.
Smith could see her role continue to expand at the age of 27 and could be just entering the peak years of her career in 2024. Over her five-year career with Chicago, Phoenix, and Indiana, Smith has averaged 5.3 points per game (PPG), 3.9 rebounds per game (RPG), and 1.1 assists per game (APG) over 102 games, but is coming off a campaign where she posted 9.2 PPG, 6.6 RPG, 1.8 APG, 1.3 steals per game, and 1.3 blocks per game over 38 appearances.
