On the eve of free agency signings, we’ve got ourselves a trade. The Connecticut Sun and Minnesota Lynx are swapping guards, with Natisha Hiedeman heading to Minnesota in exchange for Tiffany Mitchell and a second-round pick in this year’s draft.

In 2023, Hiedeman came into Sun camp as the starting point guard, after taking over the role following injury the season prior. She played all 40 games, compiling averages of 8.5 points per game (PPG), 2.1 rebounds per game (RPG), and 2.7 assists per game (APG), while knocking down 1.5 threes on 36.6 percent. Hiedeman is a knockdown shooter, but saw a slight regression from her previous highs. The change in scenery could do her well, and Minnesota is in need of a scoring punch in the backcourt.
Mitchell, an eight-year vet out of South Carolina, fits well into the scheme run by Coach Stephanie White. She brings a bit more on the defensive end of the court, while picking her spots within the flow of the offense. (It’s worth noting that there’s more work to be done here at the guard spot, especially with Tiffany Hayes’ retirement earlier this offseason. With some big name free agents still afloat, this could be the first domino.) In 2023, Mitchell averaged 7.3 PPG, 2.3 RPG, and 2.3 APG, while shooting 40.4 percent from the floor.
