Tina Charles Joins Atlanta Dream

Tina Charles is signing a deal to join the Atlanta Dream, the team has announced.

Charles joins Atlanta along with newly signed Aerial Powers, returning player Coffey, and Jordin Canada who was acquired via trade from the Los Angeles Sparks.

Charles is an eight-time All-Star, three-time Olympic Gold Medalist, four-time Rebounding Champion, two-time Scoring Champion and the 2012 WNBA MVP. Her last season in the WNBA was in 2022 when she spent the first half of the year with the Phoenix Mercury and the second half with the Seattle Storm. Charles averaged 17.3 points per game (PPG) and 7.3 rebounds per game (RPG) in 16 games with the Mercury, and 12.6 PPG and 7.4 RPG in 18 games for the Storm.

Charles’ addition to the Dream adds length and an interior presence, which they lacked after the team announced Iliana Rupert would miss the 2024 season. In 2023, the Dream logged their best season in five years, 19-21, and made a playoff appearance in the first-round since 2018.
