There aren’t many guarantees in basketball, but Thomas recording a triple-double in a game is one of them. After 11 years with the Connecticut Sun, she decided to move to the West Coast to play for the Phoenix Mercury. The 33-year-old immediately became the franchise cornerstone as she led her team to the WNBA Finals. According to ESPN’s Andscape’s Sean Hurd, the all-time leader in triple-doubles is finalizing a deal to return for a second season with the Phoenix Mercury.

Last season with the Mercury, Thomas played in 39 games and averaged a near triple-double in 31.3 minutes per game with 15.4 points, 8.8 rebounds, 9.2 assists, and 1.6 steals. Although she set a single-season record for triple-doubles with eight, she fell short of winning MVP last year. Thomas was rewarded with her efforts however, earning her third consecutive All-Star nod, sixth overall.
Thomas is the all-time leader in career triple-doubles, and she has plenty of motivation to add to her total. While her main goal isn’t to win an MVP award, she is due for one in the near future.
