The Liberty’s anchor is returning to Brooklyn for the 2026 season. Betnijah Laney-Hamilton missed the 2025 WNBA season due to a knee injury, but she’s earned her title as one of the league’s grittiest players with her two all-defensive selections, 2021 All-Star nod, and 2020 Most Improved Player award. She has been with the Liberty for four seasons now, building the team up from 10-seed to hoisting its first WNBA championship in 2024.
During that 2024 championship campaign, Laney-Hamilton averaged 11.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, 3.3 assists, and 1.1 steals a game, shooting 40.2 percent from three. She played 30.3 minutes, cementing herself as a keystone piece to the team’s success.
As she returns to the hardwood, the Liberty will look to Laney-Hamilton to produce offensively, guard any team’s best player, and continue to provide a robust veteran presence to the locker room. She will join a roster bolstered by the addition of Satou Sabally as the new look Liberty vie to return to championship caliber play.
