Nneka Ogwumike Returns Home, Signs with LA Sparks

Nneka Ogwumike

After two seasons with the Seattle Storm, Nneka Ogwumike is returning home (think there will be balloons?). After announcing on social media on Thursday that she was leaving Seattle, Ogwumike announced on Friday she would be returning to the Los Angeles Sparks, a place where she played her first 12 WNBA seasons and won one WNBA title.

The President of the WNBPA is a fitting title for Ogwumike as her leadership is reflected both on and off the floor. After 12 years with the Sparks, Ogwumike moved on to the Seattle Storm in 2024, where she spent the last two seasons. Although she is 35 years old, Ogwumike has proven age is just a number. Her elite on-court play and leadership for Seattle rewarded her with an All-Star appearance, her 10th of her career.

Last season with the Storm, she started all 44 games averaging 30.9 minutes, 18.3 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.1 steals per game. While Ogwumike is in the latter stages of her career, she is still an elite three-level scorer and tenacious defender.

Ogwumike now returns home to a place that will likely be the last stop of her career. And she immediately helps improve Los Angeles’ shot at making a championship run, both with her leadership and her skillset she still possesses on the court.
