Veronica Burton Back to the Bay on a multi-year contract with the Valkyries

Veronica Burton

Veronica Burton has re-signed with the Golden State Valkyries to a multi-year contract, the team announced.

Burton broke out as one of Golden State’s star players during their inaugural season. In 2022, she was drafted 7th overall by the Dallas Wings, where she spent 2 seasons before being waived and picked up by the Connecticut Sun early during the 2024 season. Burton averaged only 2.7 points per game across her first three years in the league, never becoming a consistent starter.

Being drafted to the Valkyries during the 2025 expansion draft seemed to energize Burton’s career. She finished the season averaging 11.9 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.0 assists per game. She shot 38.7 percent from the floor. After Valkyries forward, Kayla Thornton, was ruled out for the season due to injury, Burton stepped up and helped guide Golden State to a playoff appearance in their very first season.

Burton won the 2025 WNBA Most Improved Player award. She was also named to the 2025 WNBA All-Defensive Second Team. She will likely only improve further in 2026, bringing intense on-ball defense and more high efficiency to the Valkyries, as she becomes one of the pillars for the franchise.
