Kalani Brown is expected to sign a free agent contract to return to the Dallas Wings after playing through the 2023 season on a hardship contract, as first reported by Khristina Williams of Girls Talk Sports TV.
Brown was invited to Dallas’ training camp last season, but she didn’t make the final roster. After injuries to Diamond DeShields and Lou Lopez Senechal, Brown was signed to a hardship exception contract on May 30th. With Teaira McCowan leaving midseason to compete for Turkey in the 2023 FIBA Women’s Eurobasket, it was the perfect time for Brown’s return.
Brown was released on June 28 and then re-signed the following day under the league’s emergency salary cap hardship provision for the remainder of the season. During her time with the Wings, Brown played 32 games averaging 16.4 minutes per game (MPG), 7.8 points per game (PPG), and 4.5 rebounds per game (RPG) on 62.9 percent shooting.
Before opting to return, Brown had reportedly drawn interest from multiple teams during free agency, including the Los Angeles Sparks, Las Vegas Aces, Seattle Storm, and Atlanta Dream.
