Nneka Ogwumike Agrees to Join Storm

Nneka Ogwumike is signing a deal to join the Seattle Storm, as announced by her sister Chiney Ogwumike on NBA Today.

While many didn’t expect her to leave the only team she’s ever known, the Los Angeles Sparks, Ogwumike made a splash by seeking greener pastures elsewhere.

Notoriously one of the most consistent players in the WNBA, Ogwumike has a chance to cash in after another MVP-caliber season. In 2023, the eight-time All-Star finished sixth overall in points per game (PPG) with 19.1, fifth in defensive rebounds (DREB), sixth in total rebounds (REBS), and ninth in usage percentage. Ogwumike also finished 12th in field-goal percentage (FG%) among players averaging at least 20.0 minutes per game. She is a bonafide stud who will help the Storm bring her elite skills into their fold.

For her career, Ogwumike is averaging 16.5 PPG and 7.5 REBS on 54.5 percent shooting.

Ogwumike’s transition to the Seattle Storm comes on the heels of Skylar Diggins-Smith signing a two-year deal with the team. Emerald City now has a big three of Jewell Loyd, Skylar Diggins-Smith, and Nneka Ogwumike after ending the 2023 season as the second-worst team, an 11-29 record and missing the playoffs for the first time in seven years.
