Courtney Williams Signs with the Chicago Sky

Courtney Williams is heading to the Sky! Minutes after another guard named Courtney officially left Chicago, Williams announced her arrival to the Windy City.

Williams, 28, hit free agency again after last season’s reunion with the Connecticut Sun. Still one of the best—if not the best—scorers from midrange, Williams brings instant offense and pace whenever she touches the ball. Although her 11.1 PPG in 2022 were the lowest since her rookie season, her shooting splits were not far off from her career averages. With the scoring depth in Connecticut, Williams was seldom relied upon for a heavy offensive lift. Still, as a reluctant three-point shooter, her style of play is somewhat inefficient in today’s modern WNBA.

“Courtney is a fan favorite,” then Connecticut GM and head coach Curt Miller said at Williams’ introductory press conference last winter, “and her energy is contagious to her teammates. She is a dynamic guard that can create her own offense, which fills one of our biggest needs.”

The Chicago team she joins looks very different from last year’s squad, with Candace Parker (LVA), Azurá Stevens (LAS), and Courtney Vandersloot (NYL) all on new teams, and both Emma Meesseman and Julie Allemand likely to skip the 2023 season. Still though, Courtney Williams is up for any and every challenge, and Sky fans will fall in love quickly with the energetic guard.
